The Chesterfield is a model of armchair and sofa in English style that probably dates from the late eighteenth century. The overlay is a generally leather upholstery but like the club chair, it has adorned velvet and more recently other fabrics. The padding is originally made of horsehair or silk fill and goose feather for cushions, nowadays the polyester foam comes to replace them. The wealth of materials used (leathers, noble fabrics, wood) and the complexity of making Chesterfield sofas and chairs makes their purchase price high. In fact, for the upholstery, a first fabric is sewn to give the shape of each upholstery and to facilitate the installation of the covering requiring more material and labor than for the production of leather sofas.
